Variable-data printing (VDP) (also known as variable-information printing VIP or VI) is a form of on-demand printing in which elements such as text, graphics and images can be changed from one printed item to the next! All done on the fly with out stopping or slowing down the printing process.
This process is generated from a database that has fields that can be assigned to particular areas of the printing piece. The more sophisticated your data, the more fun can be generated with items such as a direct mail piece! Mail merge on word is a simple version of this technology.
Variable data printing (VDP) is commonly used for direct marketing, and enhanced personalized relationship building products such as thank you cards, invoices and self-mailers. This technology enables the mass customization of personalized documents as opposed to the conventional ‘mass-production’ of a single document, taking away the personalization.
